Teri aankhon ke siva duniya mein rakha kya hai- Chirag (1969)
Today I’ll present two evergreen songs created by the legendary Madan Mohan.
This gem is from the movie Chirag (1969) directed by Raj Khosla, featuring Sunil Dutt and Asha Parekh. The song has been sung for the most part by Mohd. Rafi and also by Lata Mangeshkar.
Lyrics penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri.
Teri aankhon ke siva duniya mein rakha kya hai
Ye uthe subah chale Ye jhunke shaam dhale
Mera jeena mera marna inhi palkon ke tale
Palkon ki galiyon mein chehre baharon ke haste huye
Ae mere khwabon ke kya kya nagar is mein baste huye
In mein mere aanewale zamane ki tasveer hai
Chahat ke kajal se lkhi huyi meri taqdeer hai
Main hoon kahin inka saya mere dil se jata nahi
Inke siva ab to kuchh bhi nazar mujhko aata nahi
Jalte hai jiske liye – Sujata(1959)
No one can forget the golden voice of Talat Mehmood in this gem of a song from the film Sujata. The music again was composed by Sachin Dev Burman.
Lyrics: Majrooh Sultanpuri
Jalte hain jiske liye teri aakhon ke diye,
Dhoond laya hoon wahi geet main tere liye,
Dil main rakh lena ise haathon se ye chhute na kahin,
Geet nazuk hai mere sheeshe se bhi toote na kahin,
Gungunaunga yehi geet main tere liye,
Jab talak na yeh tere ras ke bhare hontoon se mile,
Yunhi awara phirega yeh teri zulfon ke tale,
Gaye jaunga yehi geet main tere liye
Aise to na dekho – Teen Deviyaan(1965)
The trio of SD Burman – Mohd. Rafi – Dev Anand gave us several of the classic songs – from films like Bambai ka Babu, Tere Ghar Ke Samne, Guide and Jewel Thief. One of the gems that S D Burman composed was given voice by Mohd. Rafi in the film Teen Deviyaan.
Lyrics: Majrooh Sultanpuri
Aise To Na Dekho, Ke Humko Nasha Ho Jaye
Khoobsurat Si Koi Humse Khata Ho Jaye
Tum Humein Roko Phir Bhi Hum Na Ruken
Tum Kaho Kaafir Phir Bhi Aise Jhuken
Kadam-E-Naaz Pe Ik Sajda Ada Ho Jaye
Yoon Na Ho Aankhen Rahen Kaajal Gholen
Badh Ke Bekhudi Haseen Gesu Kholen
Khul Ke Phir Zulfen Siyah Kali Bala Ho Jaaye
Hum To Masti Mein Jaane Kya Kya Kahen
Lab-E-Naazuk Se Aisa Na Ho Tumhein
Beqarari Ka Gila Hum Se Siva Ho Jaye
Na Tum Hamen Jano – Baat Ek Raat Ki (1962)
Today’s focus is Sachin Dev Burman, the composer who gave us unforgettable compositions throughout his career spanning over three decades since the thirties, which were as rooted in the folk traditions as they were in their urbane elan. In Baat Ek Raat Ki (1962), his compositions were rendered by Hemant Kumar and Geeta Dutt – picturized on Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman.
Lyrics: Majrooh Sultanpuri
Na Tum Hamen Jano, Na Hum Tumen Jane
Magar Lagta Hai Kuchh Aisa, Mera Humdum Mil Gaya
Ye Mausam Ye Raat Chup Hai, Ye Hontho Kii Baat Chup Hai
Khaamoshi Sunaane Lagi, Hai Daastaan
Nazar Ban Gayee Hai, Dil Ki Zabaan
Mohabbat Ke Mod Pe Hum, Mile Sabko Chhod Ke Hum
Dhadakate Dilo Ka Leke, Ye Kaaravaan
Chale Aaj Dono, Jaane Kahaan
