Dil Tadap Tadap Ke – Madhumati (1958)

As much as Mukesh’s success and fame was due to his association with Raj Kapoor and Shankar-Jaikishan, several of the classic songs of his were from other composers, notably Salil Chowdhury. Here is a song from the Bimal Roy film, Madhumati, where Mukesh sings for Dilip Kumar, in duet with Lata Mangeshkar singing for Vyjanthimala.

Lyrics: Shailendra

Dil tadap tadap ke keh raha hai aa bhi jaa
Tu humse aankh na chura, tujhe kasam hai aa bhi jaa
Tu nahin to ye bahaar kya bahaar hai
Gul nahin khile to tera intezaar hai
Ke tera intezaar hai

Dil dhadak dhadak ke de rahaa hai ye sada
Tumhari ho chukin hun main
Tumhare saath hun sada

Tumse meri zindagi ka ye shringaar hai
Jee rahi hun main ke mujhko tumse pyaar hai
Ke mujhko tumse pyaar hai

Muskuraate pyaar ka asar hai har kahin
Dil kahaan hai hum kidhar hain kuchh khabar nahin
Kidhar hai kuchh khabar nahin

Aaja Re Pardesi – Madhumati (1958)

The Madhumati soundtrack was one of the masterpieces created by Salil Chowdhury in this Bimal Roy film. The haunting Aaja Re Pardesi was rendered perfectly by Lata Mangeshkar, picturized on Dilip Kumar and Vyjanthimala.

Lyrics: Shailendra

Aa ja re pardesi

Main to kab se khadi is paar, ye ankhiyaan
Thak gayi panth nihaar, aaja re pardesi

Main diye ki aisi baati, jal na saki jo bujh bhi na paati
Aa mil mere jeevan saathi, O

Tum sang janam janam ke phere, bhool gaye kyoon saajan mere
Tadpat hoon main saanj savere, O

Main nadiya phir bhi main pyaasi, bhed ye gehra baat zaraa si
Bin tere har saans udaasi, O
