Duniya Bananewale – Teesri Kasam (1966)

Mukesh Chandra Mathur was one of the legendary singers of the golden era of Hindi film music. The team of Raj Kapoor, Mukesh and Shankar-Jaikishan was successful in making films like Awara and Shree 420 famous among people as far away as Russia.

Here is a song, used as the leitmotif for the Basu Bhattacharya film Teesri Kasam, where Mukesh sings for Raj Kapoor.

Lyrics: Shailendra

Duniya Bananewale Kya Tere Man Mein Samaayi
Kaheko Duniya Banayi

Kahe Banaye Toone Maati Ke Putle
Dharti Yeh Pyari Pyari
Mukhde Yeh Ujle
Kahe Banaya Toone Duniya Ka Khela
Usme Lagaya Jawaani Ka Mela
Gup-Chup Tamasha Dekhe, Wah Re Teri Khudaai

Preet Banaake Toone Jeena Sikhaaya
Hansna Sikhaaya, Rona Sikhaaya
Jeevan Ke Path Par Meet Milaye
Meet Milake Toone Sapne Sajaaye
Sapne Sajaake Toone Kahe Ko De Di Judaai

Din dhal jaye – Guide(1965)

From the film Guide, with lyrics penned by Shailendra, this balmy gem of a song is truly one of the masterpieces woven by the adakari of Mohd. Rafi and the brilliant composition by S D Burman. Presented in all its glory here, with the picturization on Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman.

Lyrics:

Din Dhal Jaaye Hai Raat Na Jaaye
Tu To Na Aaye Teri Yaad Sataaye

Pyaar Mein Jinke Sab Jag Chhoda
Aur Huye Badnaam
Unke Hi Haathon Haal Hua Yeh
Baithe Hai Dil Ko Tham
Apne Kabhi The Ab Hain Paraaye

Aisi Hi Rimjhim Aisi Phuhaarein
Aisi Hi Thi Barsaat
Khud Se Judaa Aur Jag Se Paraaye
Hum Dono The Saath
Phir Se Woh Saawan Ab Kyon Na Aaye

Na Tum Hamen Jano – Baat Ek Raat Ki (1962)

Today’s focus is Sachin Dev Burman, the composer who gave us unforgettable compositions throughout his career spanning over three decades since the thirties, which were as rooted in the folk traditions as they were in their urbane elan. In Baat Ek Raat Ki (1962), his compositions were rendered by Hemant Kumar and Geeta Dutt – picturized on Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman.

Lyrics: Majrooh Sultanpuri

Na Tum Hamen Jano, Na Hum Tumen Jane
Magar Lagta Hai Kuchh Aisa, Mera Humdum Mil Gaya

Ye Mausam Ye Raat Chup Hai, Ye Hontho Kii Baat Chup Hai
Khaamoshi Sunaane Lagi, Hai Daastaan
Nazar Ban Gayee Hai, Dil Ki Zabaan

Mohabbat Ke Mod Pe Hum, Mile Sabko Chhod Ke Hum
Dhadakate Dilo Ka Leke, Ye Kaaravaan
Chale Aaj Dono, Jaane Kahaan
